| Calculations |
For more information about the methodology used to calculate the percentage of people living under the international poverty line, please visit the World Bank Poverty and Inequality Platform. |
| Other information |
This indicator is calculated by the World Bank based on data from the Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey (EICV), which provides information on changes in the well-being of the population such as poverty, inequality, employment, living conditions, education, health and housing conditions, household consumption, etc. Please note that the published EICV statistics do not include the proportion of the population below the international poverty line, however they may give a more representative view of poverty in households in Rwanda. |
| Comments and limitations |
As differences in the cost of living across the world evolve, the international poverty line has to be periodically updated using new PPP price data to reflect these changes. SDG Target 1.1 defines the international poverty line at $1.25 a day (2011 PPP), according to the 2015 update. The last change was in June 2025, when the World Bank adopted $3.00 as the international poverty line using the 2021 PPP. This is the definition used in this indicator. |
