Stunting, or low height-for-age, is a measure of growth faltering. It serves as a marker of the deficient growth environment to which children have been exposed and reflects the overall well-being of a population.

This indicator is calculated as the percentage of children under five years old whose height for age are less than minus two standard deviations from the median weight for height of the reference population ages 0–59 months.

(Number of children under age five that fall below minus two standard deviations from the median height for age of the 2006 WHO Child Growth Standards) / (Total number of children under age five in sample) * 100
