The World Health Organization (WHO) tracks the population requiring and receiving preventive chemotherapy for lymphatic filariasis, onchoceriasis, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminthiases and trachoma. In Rwanda, preventive chemotherapy is required for schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases; the figures reported here correspond to the number of people in need of preventive chemotherapy for at least one of these two diseases. |

The global metadata for this indicator specifies that it should include both the number of people requiring preventive chemotherapy for the relevant neglected tropical diseases, and the number of new cases requiring treatment and care for other neglected tropical diseases. Due to data availability, this indicator only includes information on the number of people requiring preventive chemotherapy. However, some information on treatment of other neglected tropical diseases is available in the Demographic and Health Survey 2025, published by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR). |
